New Skin Care Research Produces a Shielding Lotion to Keep Toxins at Bay (No Comments)

Everyday products found in your laundry, kitchen, bathroom and toiletry bag may contain chemical or synthetic substances that could place the health of your family at risk. One of these chemicals, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (or Sodium Laureth Sulfate) is used in many shampoos and cleaning products to create the foaming action. But it also creates a dysfunction of the biological system of the skin, causing flaking that can result in severe skin damage and dry skin conditions.

The skin is one of the organs most easily affected by environmental toxins and chemicals and can react with a type of allergic dermatitis — dry, itchy skin or when it gets severe, eczema.

Allergic dermatitis (itchy rash) is the most common skin condition in children younger than 11 years of age. The percentage of American children diagnosed with it has increased from 3% in the 1960s to more than 10% today. Now research has produced a new kind of lotion that can protect the skin and help keep these toxins out.

“The skin is the largest organ of the human body and it’s responsible for protecting the internal organs from the toxic world we live in,” says Enrique (Ike) Alabata, director of research and development for 21st Century Formulations, a company that specializes in the development of natural skin care products. “A d ecline in either the natural oils or moisture directly correlates to a higher skin pH, and that in turn reduces the skin’s defenses against these chemicals and environmental toxins.”

When it’s intact, the skin provides a nearly germ proof barrier to protect us against microorganisms, toxins and moisture loss. Skin also contains millions of sweat and oil glands, which eliminate toxins while helping to keep the body cool and the skin moist. But if the skin is stripped of this protective layer and poisoned by toxic exposure, it undergoes more skin cell damage than it can repair. When this happens, the outward appearance is that of “aging.”

Years of intensive research led the team at 21st Century Formulations to the development of Skin MD Natural, a shielding lotion that uses the very latest skin care technology to bond with the outer layer of the skin, protecting it from chemicals, environmental toxins and irritants and holding in your natural moisture, preventing the aging of the skin.

Randy Schwanke suffered with eczema, psoriasis and allergic skin reactions on both his hands and feet for many years. “Despite trying many types of lotion my hands looked like something out of a Hollywood horror movie and due to the skin problems on my feet I had difficulty walking,” says Schwanke. “My dermatologist gave me your shielding lotion and within few days my skin started to heal.”

“The artificial moisturizers in conventional creams and lotions can send a signal to the moisture producing parts of your skin that enough moisture is present,” says Dr. Brian Zogg, a board-certified dermatologist in Southern Minnesota. “Your skin then makes less of the natural moisture needed for an effective dry skin treatment. A shielding lotion protects your skin against chemicals and uses your natural oils and moisture to heal the damage.”

Even though we are exposed to chemical and toxins every day, with this new skin care technology it is possible to protect the skin on your face, hands and body, keeping it youthful, supple and healthy.

Skin Care Tips for Oily Skin (No Comments)

Sometime, some of us have very oily skin — so oily that it shines!

Here are some tips I’ve learned over the years for skin care and make-up:

Only use oil-free foundations, powder blushers and powder eyeshadows. Apply foundation on freshly washed skin — apply over eyelids and lips. A base of foundation on eyelids and lips will help eye shadow and lipstick stay on longer.

To help control the oil, wash your face with mild soap and water 2-3 times a day (if you are at home).

If you are not at home, carry baby wipes (for sensitive skin) in your purse and clean your face with a baby wipe — then re-apply make-up. Use a drying facial masque at least once a week. Place hot, steamy
washcloths on your face before applying the masque to open pores. This will help the masque “deep clean” your pores.

Only use oil-free moisturizer for sensitive skin at bedtime. If you want to dry up oil on top of make-up — lightly dab your face with toilet tissue. The toilet tissue will soak-up the oil without removing your make-up.

To cover up a blemish, after you apply foundation, apply a tiny amount of under-eye concealer to your fingertip and lightly dab the blemish until it disappears.

I would recommend you to use Witch Hazel (available in drug stores) as an inexpensive astringent. You can also dab Witch Hazel on you scalp with a cotton ball to dry up the oil on your scalp. Drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day to help control breakouts.

The Lighter And Darker Side Of Skin Care (No Comments)

Are You In Need Of Vitamin D?

Applying sun screen and keeping away from the sun’s harmful rays may cause your body to need Vitamin D. People with dark skin synthesize less vitamin D on exposure to sunlight much less than those with lighter skin. Because Vitamin D plays an important role in skin cell metabolism and growth, it may be helpful in treating the itching and flaking associated with many skin ailments.

Vitamin D is found naturally in very few foods. Foods containing Vitamin D include canned pink salmon, mackerel, & sardines, cow’s milk, fortified with vitamin D, orange juice, cereal fortified with vitamin D, egg yolks (from hens that have been fed vitamin D.)

While just 10 to 15 minutes in the summer sun a few days a week supplies adequate amounts of vitamin D, those who can’t get out in the sun may need a supplement. Choose a quality Vitamin D or Vitamin A & D in supplement form.

Are You Worried About Wrinkles?

Before trying a surgical face lift - try facial acupuncture. After just one treatment you will notice that your wrinkles have softened your eye under areas as well as the eyelids are firmer, and your pores are tighter. Compare the cost of treatment ranging from $90 to $350 a treatment for facial acupuncture with a surgical face lift ranging from $4,500 up to $15,000.

Do You Use A Natural Quality Skin Cream?

Use a good quality skin cream nightly to keep your skin soft and subtle while sleeping. Check the label and make sure all ingredients are processed without the use of synthetic preservatives or fragrances.

Do You Have Oily Skin?

Oily skin can be tricky. Do not scrub or overdue washing; this can make the skin even oilier. Cleanse your skin simply with a cotton cloth or your fingertips. Use products containing apple juice, black cherry juice, cucumber, dandelion leaf, lemon juice, licorice root and organic lavender. Supplementing with vitamins A, B and C are all good for the skin, especially oily skin.

Are You Plagued By Dry Skin?

To ease dry skin wash twice a day with a quality water-based botanical cleaner. The ingredients should include aloe vera, calendula, green tea, orange peal oil, rose or witch hazel.

Why Not Try DMAE For Your Hair And Skin?

Supplement with DMAE, about 100 mg a day, and you will find your skin will be firmer and less likely to tear, bleed, or develop scrapes and scabs. It will also strengthen your hair follicles.

Quality Water Is Best For Good Skin Care.

Keeping your skin hydrated by drinking 4/8 glasses of quality water daily is the best ticket to plump, firmer more youthful skin. Drink good quality bottled water, distilled being the best.

As with any vitamin or supplement, please consult your doctor before taking. Author Beverly Terhune speaks from 35 years of living with Rheumatoid Arthritis and shares her experience, strength & hope on how to lead a healthy, substance-free life.
